IOLA — Labette County High School had a 7-0 lead at halftime here Friday night, but lost momentum and the game 24-15.
Grizzly senior Hunter Seibert drew first blood with a 96 yard run in the second quarter. An extra point made the score 7-0. LCHS scored again in the third, which was answered by Iola, but the Grizzlies kept a 15-8 lead going into the final quarter.
Iola scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal their first win of the season. LCHS falls to 0-6.
Seibert was a bright spot for the Grizzlies, rushing 29 times for 206 yards. Taylor Stice had two catches for 53 yards. Cole Traxson intercepted a pass for LC.
“This is obviously a very disappointing performance for us tonight,” LCHC coach Shane Holtzman said. “We didn’t do the things that we must do in order to be successful. We turned the ball over three times and committed numerous penalties on the night. We were unable to stop them from running the ball.
LC travels to Coffeyville next week to begin district play.
