Next week, the Church of God, 2401 Crawford, will kick off a new children’s ministry with a crusade on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15.

Scott and Rayma Gegg of Altamont will be children’s ministers, under the guidance of Pastor Vernon Norris and his wife, Joyce.

The crusade is open to the public and starts at 7 p.m. on both nights and will feature scripture-based activities for children, Scott Gegg said. Puppets and songs will be part of the activities. On Saturday, Oct. 15, the night will end with treats, including hot dogs, and a time for fellowship.

The children’s ministry will start Sunday, Oct. 16. The Church of God has Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. followed by the worship at 10:30 a.m. At 10:30, children of all ages will go to a different area of the church to receive the message.

Scott Gegg said the activities and lessons will keep the children active and busy.

“It’s going to be a children’s church,” he said.

“We strongly believe with children you need to get a foundation built,” he said.

No matter what you are doing, he said a good foundation comes first. “The Bible is definitely the foundation that kids need and everybody needs.”

Rayma Gegg is a para for USD 506 and is good with kids, Scott Gegg said.

He said kids might think church is boring, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

“It’s going to be fun,” he said of the children’s ministry. “You can learn about God and his word and have fun doing it.”

“We’re expecting a good turnout. We’re very, very excited about this ministry,” Scott Gegg said.
