The St. Patrick Catholic School boys basketball team got an exciting win over Oswego Thursday in Oswego.

The team won 32--28 in a contest that went into overtime.

“Besides the third quarter we played good basketball. We let them go on a run in the third, but we recovered in the fourth and pulled it out in overtime,” said Saints coach John Schibi. “John Fees controlled the paint with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tristain Smith hit two huge three’s in the first half and did a great job of taking care of the ball.”

Fees led the team with his 15 while Smith scored eight. The Saints are now 2-3 overall in A games.

In the B game, the win was just as exciting for the Saints, who won 18-17.

Trailing by one with 1.6 seconds left, Zach Johnson threw a three-quarter court length pass to Connor O’Hara who took one dribble and banked in a shot at the buzzer to win. The B team is now 2-3 this year.

O’Hara scored eight points and Matt Strathe had four for the Saints.

“We played hard and never gave up and it paid dividends on that final play. Zach Johnson threw a perfect pass and Connor O’Hara made a great shot,” said coach Schibi.

In girls action, Oswego swept the Indians in two games. A final score for the A game was unavailable.

After trailing 19-7 at the break, the Saints kept things close in the second half.

“We competed all four quarters. I was pleased with our intensity the second half. We need to be more consistent offensively,” said coach Pat Schibi.

Meagan Hizey scored seven to lead the Saints and Bridget Dunlay had five.

The Saints are now 2-3 on the season.

In the A game, Oswego defeated St. Patricks 20-0 to move the Saints to 0-4 this year in B games.

The next action for the Saints will be on Jan. 5 of 2012 when they travel to Chetopa.
